Training

All training session are open to all club members no matter what your experience is. Anyone interested in joining the club is welcome to come and try out the sessions before buying membership. Weekly sessions follow the timetable below but may vary with any changes posted on the Facebook group. The club possesses equipment such as bikes which are free for club members to borrow so all you need to bring with you is your sportswear (e.g. swimming costume, running kit etc.)!

Coaching staff

The coaching team is made up of staff and student coaches within the club. They are not just here to coach the physical side of training but also to help with support our athletes during their time at University. They work with other departments such as Student Service and the Athletic Union to ensure our students are getting a good and positive experience during their time in the club.

The Coaches and Committee like to keep a safe, fun, equal and diverse environment for everyone to enjoy no matter your ability everyone is welcome to come along and experience the University of St Andrews Triathlon Club.

Coaching Staff

Head Coach: Ross Whittaker, UKCC Level 2-Triathlon

Ross has been involved with the club since 2013 when the club started as an official Saints Sports Club as a part of the University of St Andrews Athletic Union. Ross Volunteer with the club in that first year on hand to give small advice and guidance to the club to help them get up and started.

Then in 2016 the club approached Ross to come on board as the club’s official coach and that on the training program and create a structured training schedule throughout each semester for the student athletes.

Ross work closely with committee of the club to make sure as a club we provide the best environment for our members and athletes.

Likes: Coffee stops for the cake.

Dislikes: Say bye to student athletes when they graduate.

Favourite moments in the club: the club Trips and the spicy rides.

Assistant Coach: Lucy Cottee, UKCC Level 2 Triathlon

Lucy started out as an assistant swimming coach back home in 2012 and took up her triathlon qualifications at university. She joined the club as a fresher in September 2017 and began coaching at the club in first year. She works closely with Ross, club members and the committee to ensure every individual can achieve their goals.

Likes: Hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Dislikes: When she forgets her gloves on winter bike rides.

Favourite moments in the club: Potluck Fridays and hard 2-hour Wednesday swim sets.
